What are the differences in the myths and legends associated with the different types of Rudraksha beads?

Introduction

What are Rudraksha Beads?

Rudraksha beads are the fruits of a tree that grows in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. They’re sacred and auspicious; they’re believed to have healing properties, bring prosperity and good luck. The beads come in different shapes, sizes and colors–and there are many myths surrounding them.

Pricing of Rudraksha Beads

Rudraksha beads are available in different sizes and shapes. The number of Mukhis (eyes) on a Rudraksha bead determines its price, as well as the quality of the bead. A high-quality rudraksha with 12 Mukhis is considered to be an auspicious one for meditation purposes; whereas, a low-quality rudraksha with only 6 Mukhis may not be suitable for meditative purposes because it has fewer eyes to absorb negative energies from your body during meditation.

Who Can Wear Rudraksha Beads?

Rudraksha beads are not recommended for children and under 18s. They should also be avoided by those suffering from a serious illness or those taking medication that may interfere with the healing properties of Rudraksha. There are no gender restrictions on wearing these beads, so both men and women can benefit from their use.

Rituals and Procedures for Wearing Rudraksha Beads

  • String around neck with thread or chain.
  • Natural discoloration of wood from rubbing against clothing.
  • Wear another necklace underneath, so that the rudraksha beads do not rub against your skin and damage it.

Pricing of Rudraksha Beads

The price of a rudraksha bead is determined by its size, quality and number of mukhis (eyes). The larger the bead, the higher its price. A high-quality organic rudraksha will cost you more than an artificial one. A single-mukhi bead is also more expensive than a multi-mukhi one because it has been handcrafted with great care and love by someone who has dedicated their life to this art form.
