What is a Pearl?

Pearls are formed when an irritant enters an oyster’s shell, causing it to produce a substance called nacre. This substance coats the irritant, forming layers around it that eventually become smooth and lustrous.
Pearls can be found in many different shapes and sizes. The most common pearl shape is round, but pearls can also be oval or baroque (irregular).

Round Pearls
